Frequently Asked Questions

Are your staff DBS or PVG checked?

Yes

All staff are checked by the Disclosure and Barring Service (England & Wales) or Disclosure Scotland, and adhere to our comprehensive child protection policy.

Can children access WIFI?

NO

We won’t give WIFI codes to children. Group leaders/teachers can have access if required.

Can children bring pocket money?

YES

They can buy a range of souvenirs and gifts, sweets, crisps and drinks. Items are reasonably priced.

How safe are the activities?

They are very safe. Every instructor is a fully qualified first aider and qualified to run activities. All activities are fully licensed by AALA (Adventure Activities Licensing Authority). All equipment is regularly inspected and maintained in line with industry recommendations and advice. Activity and facility risk assessments are available and groups can carry out independent risk assessments to satisfy the requirements of their governing bodies. How many leaders need to accompany my group?

Schools and groups should take advice from their Local Education Authority or governing body for the number required. We ask that at least 1 adult leader/helper is present with each activity group (approx. 12-16 people) to assist with group supervision. Special needs groups may require an increased ratio. For the majority of groups, a good ratio is one leader for every 10, and then increase/decrease according to circumstances.

Who’s supervising my child?

Group leaders and organisers are ultimately responsible for the supervision of their groups. We do ask that children’s groups provide at least one adult leader/helper to work alongside our instructors and assist with the supervision of their group whilst on instructed activities.

What’s the accommodation like?

Each group has its own self-contained accommodation which is not shared with other groups. Most rooms are shared with bunk beds. Most have ensuite bathrooms but there are separate shower rooms and toilets close to the bedrooms. Girls and boys sleep in separate rooms. All bedding is provided.

Can I visit before I come?

Yes

You can arrange a site-visit. A member of our team will show you around the centre (including accommodation and activity areas) and answer any questions you may have about your booking. Please call at least a day in advance to arrange a visit.

Who looks after my child at night?

Group leaders/teachers have rooms close by and will be available during the night if needed. All centres have a duty manager who is contactable out of office hours if help is needed.

What if my child has special needs?

We will work in line with the qualified group leaders or helpers responsible for the group. Our instructors are very good at adapting the activities to the needs of the individual or group and will work under the guidance of the group leader.

Are your centres wheelchair friendly?

Yes

Our centres provide various accommodation options including wheelchair accessible rooms. Our instructors will work with you to ensure the specific needs and objectives of your group are fully met throughout your stay.

How long do activity sessions last?

Activity sessions typically last for 1hr 45mins – 2 hours depending upon the session and the centre you are visiting. Spotlight sessions typically last for 1 hour. Some off-site activities can be for half a day or all day. Please contact the centre of your choice for specific details of session times.

What do my group need to bring for activities?

You can download our Recommended Clothing for Activities sheet for parents and guardians. It is ultimately up to group leaders to advise their groups of what other items to bring with them on their residential. However we have produced the following kit list as a guide which you can download. Activity Kit Information

All our food is freshly produced and is nutritionally balanced to help to fuel your group for those energetic activity sessions. Breakfast is typically a selection of cereals, fruit, yogurt and toast. Lunch is usually filled rolls, fruit, crisps, a chocolate bar and a drink. Hot lunches and dinners are typically a main and pudding. Please inform your group leader of any specific dietary requirements as early as possible so that we can ensure we have catered for your child.
